Japanese Budo for all
The United Kingdom branch dojo - Tekisuijuku of the Dai Nippon Iaido Kyokai was established in 2014 with the aim of promoting the Japanese martial arts of the Dai Nippon Iaido Kyokai (DNIK) as taught by Shimojo soke.
We are open to individual's and dojo's who would like to join our growing UK and world wide community.
We pride ourselves in being an inclusive, friendly and non-political group who share a love of Japanese budo, self development and helping others reach their full potential.
All the members in the UK have equal standing, there are those who have travelled the budo path for longer than others, it is the responsibility of all to help others with less experience to reach their full potential.
Each dojo is a branch dojo directly linked to Shimojo sensei, as of 2021 the DNIK no longer has Country/International Directors. There is a contact email address for each Country so prospective members have an initial point of contact.
Presently the Dai Nippon Iaido Kyokai teaches many Japanese budo Ryu ha, including;
If you would like to find out more about who and what we are, please get in-touch using the contact us button.
These studies are undertaken directly with Shimojo soke on a personal basis
If you are presently teaching a martial art and would like to introduce another art. We can help, some of the DNIK UK member dojo's offer free introduction courses.
There are many dojo's and organisations studying Japanese budo, being a non-political organisation we believe in building friendships with others.
These friendships bring a richness to our understanding of Budo through the variety of view points..
If you are interested in building friendship and joint training sessions to share experiences in the martial arts, please get in touch.
The Dai Nippon Iaido Kyokai is headquartered in Kyoto, Japan and was founded by Shimojo Sensei. In the old tradition of Japanese Budo the organisation uses the Soke system to define how the organisations functions.
The Soke is responsible for maintaining the standards of the school and ensuring the past is preserved while developing the school maintaining the founding principles.
Only the Soke has the authority to makes changes to the school and confer teaching licenses etc.to students. It is the sole responsibility for the Soke to train a successor to continue the school and maintain continuity.
Shimojo soke has a rich history and experience in many Japanese Budo arts, his aim is to share Japanese Martial Arts with the world. He welcomes anyone with the correct mind/attitude wishing to join our organisation.
It is a personal honour and a privilege to be a student of Shimojo sensei, on his behalf I am here to welcome anyone in the UK who would like to join the Dai Nippon Iaido Kyokai.

Teki sui juku dojo sensei
"I have practised martial arts since 2005 and been a member of the DNIK since 2014. Both of my Sensei, in Japan and in the UK, have always delivered training of a high quality and they have a vast knowledge and understanding of this discipline.
There is a strong emphasis on the awareness of body and mind as well as the continued development of techniques. These combined values have allowed me to successfully progress and continue to improve.“
